Tales of the Uninspected

Welcome to our collection of Reports on Care Homes conducted by Eileen Chubb on behalf of Compassion in Care.

.....Drugs were being given in doses that were not prescribed, people were still being left without their prescribed pain relief in spite of the CQCs confidence that the home had comprehensive paperwork.... Large stockpiles of medication were found without any indication of who it was prescribed for.......

.....There have been complaints about limited activities, alledged thefts, lack of managment, meals, poor personal care, poor healthcare. The majority of the concerns have been passed to the care company to investigate.....

.....Five relatives have gone to the authorities with their concerns, this says there are serious problems....The heating is not working in a home owned by a company that has a previous record of hyperthermia fatalities......

.....The CQC have failed to grasp that writing up care plans to reflect that care is given, is not not a substitute for care.....This resident did not recieve care, the damage has already been suffered......

Staff did not get time to read the care plans....Care plans are written to satisfy the CQC, a regulator who places far too much reliance on bits of paper and far too little on common sense.....

.....CQC are informed of concerns which relate to the poor attitude of senior staff, poor care, lack of food and other serious concerns, all referred back to the home to investigate themselves...There is nowhere for people to go when a care home fails them, the CQC are a joke......

.....Concerns were raised that a resident had fallen and no one came to answer the call bell, the resident had to telephone a relative for help....The staff were expected to provide assitance to 23 people living in bungalows in the grounds also.....

......There is an allegation that accidents are not recorded or reported. The CQC check the homes accident book and say everything is in order, well it would be if accidents are not recorded, they would not be in the book.....Residents were left sleeping in chairs all night......

.....CQC rate this home as good.... four allegations of abuse says something is very wrong here.....still there is only the anticipation of action and this is why abusers thrive in such homes.....

.....A resident from this care home died after being admitted to hospital...the hospital alerted social services....85 year old William Perrin lost 31kg whilst in the home, he had pressure sores on his buttucks, heels and lower back.....CQC rated this home 1 star.....
