The below news story highlights some of the horrors reported by a Whistle-blower who worked as a cleaner at one of the three homes owned by Smallwood Care Homes. This Whistle-blower has since left.

This is what happens when bad homes are allowed to continue under a new name but with the same bad owners and culture, this home was protected by the CQC and therefore the vulnerable people living there were subjected to dreadful abuse and suffering as a direct consequence. What happened in these homes is truely shocking.....

.....A member of staff tells the CQC that they found a resident with their lips and mouth stuck together as they were so thirsty.. list of the injuries sustained include Fractured ribs, two fractured legs, two fractured hips, two fractured wrists, one fractured arm, another resident is found with bruising to lips, face and arms, these are just some of what was found.. yet two years earlier similier concerns were reported to the very top of the CQC, yet again the opportunity to prevent further suffering was not acted on.....

.....It is clear that people have suffered due to staffing levels being set too low to meet peoples needs..this pattern has continued.....

.....The CQC were told of concerns people needs were not assessed or met..The CQC do not uphold these concerns. However there is clear evidence that things are not ok ,for example the high number of expected deaths in the previous three months.....

.....The company do audits and ask what the staff views are but staff felt their views were ignored.. due to low staffing levels staff had to rotate who was got up each morning so that the same people did not have to wait until after 1.45pm before being given any care.....
